MARK:

How long were you on HIV pills before you made the switch?

STEVE:

Yeah, I think I was about three years before I made the switch.

JAYSON:

I was on pills for 16 years.

MARK:

Well, I was on three HIV pills, and I was for over 10 years. I didn’t know that weighed on me so much until I didn’t have to do that anymore.

ORLANDO:

What I’ve gained since being on CABENUVA is like I know I focus more now on living life versus worrying about the HIV pill.

KAREN and ONSCREEN TEXT:

Karen:

My biggest problem was I worked a lot. I had like, uh, several jobs. Taking HIV pills is not my thing. I'm forgetful. I will forget, and I missed some pills, and I worried.

Text Onscreen:

Adherence to HIV treatment is recommended to avoid becoming treatment resistant.

JAYSON:

Has anyone ever lost a pill or…or, you know, dropped one? I remember learning to make sure the stopper in…in the bathroom sink was…was…

KAREN:

Oh yeah.

JAYSON:

…down, so if it did fall…

KAREN:

Oh my God, yes.

JAYSON:

...you couldn’t lose it.

ORLANDO:

Like, oh God, it’s only a 30-day supply, now I’ve got to pick up the phone.

MARK:

One day I dropped it on the floor, and that thing rolled behind the fridge, and I thought, I'm pulling that fridge out, and dusting it off, and blowing it and still taking it ‘cause I wasn’t going to be out of sync. It was all that stress. When you were on HIV pills, did you ever feel to hide them from people?

STEVE:

It was always a concern if I was traveling. Uh, you know, are they going to discover my pill bottle, start asking questions. What’s this about? And like just cause like embarrassment.

ORLANDO:

When I was diagnosed, when I am trying to figure out dating, right? Oh gosh. We all know about that. He saw the pill bottle, and I didn’t realize that it was out. He already knew before I even had a chance. I had that same exact reaction that you just did.

KAREN:

I believe that CABENUVA can help. You have the control of who you want to tell and who you don’t want to tell.

JAYSON:

Not having to take a pill, not having that reminder every day for me is I get a break from 30 years of, you know, worried about it.

STEVE:

Did any of you have any fears in switching from like your HIV pills to CABENUVA?

JAYSON:

I had that a little bit, but I just talked to the doctor about it and just trusted the science.

ORLANDO and ONSCREEN TEXT:

Orlando:

Going from the once daily to every other month, uh, it has just been such a rewarding experience for me.

Text Onscreen:

CABENUVA is given every other month or monthly by a healthcare provider as 2 injections, initially 1 month apart for 2 months. Attend all appointments.

STEVE and ONSCREEN TEXT:

Steve:

I’m every other month, so it’s a relatively new experience still, but, um, I’m loving it.

STEVE:

I’ve definitely had occasions, too, where I’ve gone over to like visit a friend like for the day. You’re having a good time. You’re like, you know what? I’m just going to spend the night, and in the past you’d have to be like, oh, wait. I didn’t bring my pills. I got to go home. So that’s the kind of thing for me that I’ve had the more spontaneity.

JAYSON:

I like being able to just go away for the weekend. Like let’s just go away and not even have to think about it.

STEVE:

Does anyone have like a ritual on their injection day?

JAYSON:

To me, that’s a really…a really...it’s a good day. It’s a day to take care of my health.

STEVE:

Yeah. I like to treat myself a little bit too. I usually...I usually go out for actually breakfast after mine. I go to a nice, uh, little...like this French bistro I love in my neighborhood.

JAYSON:

When you’re going to see your healthcare provider, you know you’re getting a shot in your upper butt.

KAREN:

(Laughs) Right.

STEVE:

I wear something comfortable, something loose.

JAYSON:

Yes. Yeah, that’s a good point.

MARK:

I’ve been accused of matching my underwear to my socks.

ORLANDO:

I don’t have to worry about, oh Lord, where’s my pill?

STEVE:

Switching to CABENUVA is now like I go every two months without just having that daily reminder.

JAYSON:

Yeah, I would not want to go back to a pill every day, not unless I really had to. Yeah.

MARK:

There is an option now.

ORLANDO:

There is definitely an option. Oh, high five to that. I like the way you said (Clap) that.

JAYSON:

(Laughs)

ORLANDO:

I can plan more travel. Like I can go to the Amazon. You know what I’m saying? And I know I’m going to want to go probably right after I get the injection so that I can really enjoy myself for two months. I love you guys. (Laughs) I really do.
